According to a report in Motorsport News, teams have come to an initial agreement to limit the number of engines used over a race weekend to two per team.
The proposal was discussed at November's technical working group meeting and is designed to limit the amount of money spent on engines during the season. Teams currently use at least fifty engines a year, but only get through six or seven chassis.
This new move would put an end to special qualifying engines, and would see one unit used on Friday and Saturday and the second utilised over the rest of the weekend.
If an engine were to let go during Sunday morning warm-up then that car would have to start the race from the back of the grid.
