FIA President Jean Todt and Bernie Ecclestone are to be given fresh powers to govern the future direction of Formula 1 following a mandate approval handed down by the World Motor Sport Council

Following a meeting of the WMSC, a 'near unanimous number (one vote against)' agreed to mandate Todt and Ecclestone the opportunity to 'make recommendations and decisions regarding a number of pressing issues in Formula One'.

These matters are categorised as 'governance, Power Units and cost reduction', with Todt and Ecclestone now a*** to express their intention to establish conclusions on these matters by 31 January, 2016.

The FIA has announced it will allow in-season engine development until at least the end of the 2019 season.

As before, the number of tokens an engine manufacturer might spend on development tapers off through to 2020, although more will be allowed year-on-year.

Therefore, 32 will be permitted in 2016 instead of the 25 previously allowed, with 25 in 2017, 20 in 2018 decreasing to 15 in 2019. Previously, manufacturers could spend only two tokens that year.

In addition, token levels have been set for new engine manufacturers entering the sport after Honda were given an average of the number Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari had remaining by Australia this year. That figure was worked out at nine.

In the future, a new manufacturer will be allocated 15 tokens in their first year, and 32 in their second.

I Hamiltono vs Rosbergo tema. Inzinieriaus Jock Clear, dirbusio su JV, LH ir MS nuomone:

I went to a very interesting Engineering talk last night in Sailsbury where Jock Clear was the guest speaker.
He in a nutshell spoke about what is was like to be an engineer in Formula One at such a successful level.

He being behind the scenes knows a hell of a lot more about what really goes on in F1 than any of us will do. He has worked with many drivers from Johnny Herbert to Lewis Hamilton and Micheal Schumacher.

The arguments with VET and WEB he said were medias opportunities of making a story and rumours to go around the paddock. There was no separation between the team as “sides” and all data was shared openly. Jock basically said that under the circumstances Webber couldn’t pull his season together, he didn’t have the mindset and didn’t use those around him at his full disposal like Vettel did which is why Vettel won multiple championships in a row.

Now about the Hamilton Bashing, I am not a fan of his mostly because I have always favoured Button or others but again Jock has worked with Hamilton as Head of Engineering in Mercedes and he said Hamilton is a very likea*** and easy guy to work with. He said he was the real deal and is the best driver in the team because he gets the people in the team and in the factory behind him. This is something we don’t see because he leads the life of a James Hunt styled playboy. I find it fascinating because Jock worked with Nico but he said they didn’t get on. Rosberg is too focused on the numbers and and how the other driver is doing that he forgets about the other bits and Jock effectively slagged him off because Rosberg was sat along side Micheal for 2 years was it? and he said he learnt nothing off him because he was always comparing data and not seeing how Micheal got a team working together. This is something Jock says Vettel and Hamilton do very well and shows why they are superior to their teammates.

The Bloomberg news agency claimed the engineer Benjamin Hoyle, working for the German marque's F1 engine facility, took documents and data as he prepared to move to Ferrari.
Hoyle, who intends to join Ferrari after December, saved a 2015 Hungarian grand prix race report, engine data and code to decrypt race data, the report said.
"Mr Hoyle and potentially Ferrari have gained an unlawful advantage," a filing, echoing an earlier espionage scandal in F1 involving McLaren and Ferrari, reportedly reads.

One of the early things that he asked for was a speedometer. At first we all laughed at this – race drivers use the tacho (rpm meter). So he explained that the tacho was very useful but “If I come out of the corner in 3rd gear or I come out of the same corner in 2nd gear, I want to know whether it actually helps my acceleration. Do I reach a higher top speed or is the extra acceleration in 2nd lost when I change gear? If I change gear earlier in top gear, when the engine feels a bit flat, I want to know whether it helps my top speed. If I change the actual gear ratios, then all my references are gone if I’ve only got rpm.” So, to the rescue came Richard Marshall (Head of Electronics) and we gave Michael a digital speed display.

So Michael had his little remote speed display, he used it to help with his driving technique, but then he commented that he felt that it wasn’t quite as easy as he’d thought to read. He said: “In the middle of a corner, when I’m making the apex, it’s a bit hard to focus on the speed. Things are changing so quickly so you can’t really watch the speedo and be sure that you’ve seen the lowest speed. Then, if you want to watch your top speed at the end of the straight, it’s not so easy to watch there either because you’ve really got to be watching for your brake marker.” So what he said he would really like now was 3 speed displays. I suspect at this point we looked a bit puzzled so he explained what he wanted: “I’d like to keep the real-time speedo in the middle, where it is. Then on the left I would like a speed display that shows the minimum speed in a corner. It should hold that speed until I go for the brakes again. Then when I go for the brakes that can be reset to give me the new minimum speed. Then on the right I’d like another speed display to remember the maximum speed I reached until I’ve been flat on the throttle for a second or two so I can read the maximum speed from the previous straight”. Richard went back to work out how that could be done and gave Michael that arrangement. You can imagine that the displays themselves and the way they were configured went though some iterations.

So we gave him those and then he started to play. He would experiment with ratios, driving styles, racing lines and also use it to assess setup changes. After a few years Michael decided he knew how to drive a F1 car now and didn’t need the speedos any more, but that was a learning exercise for him.
