The German GP looks set to be dropped from the final 2017 schedule when it is confirmed by the World Motor Sport Council on November 30.

Hungary is now expected to move from July 23 to the original German date of July 30, mainly because without that change there would be a break of four weekends with no races.

Sebastian Vettel was unimpressed with Lewis Hamilton's approach to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, labelling the Briton's attempts to back Nico Rosberg into the pack as "dirty tricks".

Christian [Horner, Red Bull boss] had the same idea before the weekend, he followed Christian’s instruction so maybe he wants to drive for him! You see, I’m going from one side to the other side [in my mind].

Horner: “We know that Toto likes to control most things in the paddock, including other teams’ drivers. I understand that Toto has suggested that Lewis followed my instruction rather than his, and he should come and drive for Red Bull."

“Congratulations to Nico. He’s driven a great season and is a very worthy world champion. But it was naive to think there would be any different approach to this race with what’s at stake. Lewis drove a tactical race. He didn’t do anything dirty. He didn’t do anything against the rules. I think it would be unfair to criticize him for the way that he drove.”

Horner said later: “I wouldn’t have expected him to do anything different. He played completely within the rules. Winning the race wasn’t going to be enough for him today, he needed cars between him and if he’d charged off into the distance he wouldn’t have created that possibility. So he won the race as slowly as he could. It’s like in a football game where the team might protect from the opposition by kicking the ball around and not enabling the opposition to get hold of the it. I didn’t see that he did anything wrong today.”

Bernie Ecclestone and Italian Grand Prix chiefs finally signed an agreement to keep Formula 1 at Monza for the next three years.

F1 boss Ecclestone met with president of the Automobile club d'Italia Angelo Sticchi Damiani on Monday to bring the long-running saga to and end.

In September, Monza bosses announced a new three-year deal to keep the race through to 2019 had been secured.

However, they admitted the contract had not yet been signed.

It emerged Imola had taken legal action as it felt it was not legitimate that the ACI awarded government backing to Monza and not Imola, to help fund an Italian GP beyond this year.

A court hearing was set for October 26 to assess the case, but this was cancelled when Imola withdrew its objection.

That paved the way for Ecclestone and Monza to resume talks.

The agreement was signed in time for Wednesday's World Motor Sport Council meeting this week, where the 2017 calendar is expected to be ratified.

Monza has staged the grand prix every year since F1's inception in 1950, excluding 1980 when Imola played host.

I found a happy Paddy Lowe and asked him why the team had felt the need to be involved in the race. He explained that the sole reason was that Sebastian Vettel was in a position that meant the team’s predictive software was telling them that they would lose the race and they were informing Lewis what was required to avoid that happening.
