While Honda formally depart Formula 1 at the end of 2021 after successfully landing the Drivers' World Championship with Max Verstappen, their intellectual property will continue in the hands of the newly formed Red Bull Powertrains.

Due to the closeness of the Red Bull/Honda partnership, Honda agreed to hand over their designs to Red Bull for 2022 and the beginning of the engine freeze.

The intent was for Honda to continue to prepare the engines on behalf of Red Bull for 2022 and 2023. After that season, Red Bull would then take over the manufacturing and management of the power units through their Powertrains division.

However, RacingNews365.com now understands that the arrangement for 2022 is set to continue throughout the following seasons and take Red Bull through until 2025 and the end of the current engine regulation cycle.

Honda will continue to maintain and supply the engines from Japan, although the engines will not be badged as Honda.

So Honda. Kaip ir sitas: "Honda believes feeling too much respect for each other to communicate properly was one of the reasons its latest Formula 1 engine partnership with McLaren failed." - daiktus ivardinti tikraisiais vardais - "GP2 Engine" - uztruko per ilgai.

“First, I guess it’s positive for F1 that everyone is chiming in, that there’s so much passion for either side, Lewis or Max,” Johansson wrote on his personal blog.

“Whether it’s intentional or not, the entertainment value of this controversy has gone through the roof.

“But I think there has to be a balance somewhere because the decisions Masi made make no sense on any level. His decision completely ignored any level of common sense as to what would have been a fair way to handle the situation.”

Johansson offered what his approach would have been had he been the one sat in Masi’s hot seat.

He said: “The only way it should have been done was by doing what you’d normally do and indeed what he did in the race prior.

“As soon as they deployed the safety car with five laps to go they should have red flagged the race.

“That’s the only way to keep it level and keep the excitement until the end. You would have had everyone come into the pits while they clear the track, put new tyres on and go from there like they did at the Saudi Grand Prix when Red Bull rebuilt half their car and put new tyres on.

“Had that been done you could have had a fair five-lap shootout for the championship. Making the decisions he did and then changing his mind completely at the very last moment absolutely handed the race on a plate to Max and Red Bull after Lewis had done a flawless race.

Johansson then went on to add: “This last race was just the culmination of a series of incredibly bad calls that somehow seem to have escalated as the year went on.”

At the FIA, there has been a changing of the guard with Ben Sulayem replacing Jean Todt following his maximum third four-year term and one of Ben Sulayem’s first acts has been to get in touch with the seven-time World Champion.

However, he is still awaiting a response from Hamilton, who along with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff chose to snub the FIA Prize Giving Gala at the end of the season.

“I’ve sent him messages,” Ben Sulayem said as the 2022 Dakar Rally began in Jeddah.

“I don’t think he’s 100 per cent ready to respond right now. We don’t blame him. I understand his position, as a driver, obviously, he is at a different level.

Manau, kad po laiko jau visi yra expertai, tačiau ar būtu jie priėmę teisingą sprendimą turint sekundes ir atlaikant spaudimą iš visų pusių - vargu.

Now the BBC claim a “senior source” has told them Mercedes “dropped their appeal against the results of the race after agreeing a quid pro quo deal with the FIA”.

They add that “this deal was said to be that Masi and FIA head of single-seater technical matters Nikolas Tombazis would no longer be in their positions for the 2022 season”.

Mercedes are said to have denied “any such deal was reached” though, instead sticking by their original stance that they dropped the appeal after receiving assurances the matter would be taken seriously and investigated fully by the FIA.

Stefan Johansson says most people he has spoken to within the racing industry say they will not watch F1 again after the Abu Dhabi controversy.

“I just wish the season could have been decided in a fair way,” he said in his blog.

“I’ve had messages from so many people within the racing industry and they mostly say that was the last F1 race they will ever watch.

“We all love the sport but it’s hard to get enthusiastic when stupid things like that keep happening.

“There is a definite split though. The people watching that are more fans than actually in the business, they all loved the way it finished, and all the people that are in the business are really upset and are all talking about tuning out and not bother watching anymore.

“From the point of view of Liberty, I think it’s quite clear who the winner of the two will be. I just hope there will be a sensi*** balance going forward.”
