Speaking to Spanish TV station Movistar, Hasegawa said: "The first day we had an oil system issue, the oil tank. Normally the oil tank has to manage the oil level but this year we had some bad oil management so that is why we need to modify the oil tank system.

"The second day we have a mechanical issue and still we don't know the root cause of the problem. This is more fundamental and more serious I think. We need to find out what was causing the issue."

When asked if the problems could compromise Honda's start to the F1 season, Hasegawa said: "Oil tank definitely not. [The] mechanical issue, I don't know, yet to be confident about that, but of course I worry about that."

Red Bull has sent a letter to FIA asking is it OK to burn 5 kg of oil during qualifying through burning accumulated excess oil from the circulation and letting it to flow into plenum and hence burn it. The idea seems to be that lubricant oil could contain anti knock substances that would boost the PU performance. FIA has responded saying that while they understand that some oil is consumed during racing, excessive burning is considered illegal. The story suggests Mercedes is the target of this query.

Red Bull now specified their suspicion: They say Mercedes is pushing oil from below past the piston rings into the combustion chamber to (briefly) enhance the performance with additives that are not allowed in the fuel.

Marcin Budkowski is the new Head of Technical Department at FIA.

For those who don't know: Budkowski is a former McLaren and Ferrari aero guy and is for quite some time rumoured to slowly take over from Whiting. Charlie will probably remain race diretor though.

Ironically there has been an impression spread abroad by those who have worked with Lewis at both Mercedes and McLaren that it is he who benefits more from the sharing of data amongst team mates. Rosberg was often categorised as the ‘cerebral’ one of the Mercedes pairing – with Lewis more akin to one who drives by the seat of their pants.

This suggestion by Hamilton that Mercedes should no longer share data in the garage was dismissed quickly by Toto Wolff. And in the modern world of F1 this course of action would be unthinka***.

This year, the leap in performance comes through the corners. At the end of the famous Turn 3 in Barcelona, the climbing right-hander that follows the chicane after the pit straight, the cars were registering 30kph more than they were in the same place just a year ago.

Other teams are suggesting Ferrari is running a bit light; they may know something we don't, but from trackside it doesn't look too light and if there is a difference compared to Mercedes, it's not too much.

So I suspect any fuel-load difference is minimal. If not, and Ferrari is running light, then the team's being pretty stupid because the season is coming up soon and it's better to work on your own problems and improve rather than camouflaging them.

What we can be sure of is that Ferrari, relative to the rest, has taken a step forward from last year.

Only someone with a hole in their head would believe that a racing car with wider tyres and higher levels of downforce, both of which will reduce braking distances and increase cornering speeds - on top of the fact that the airflow wake coming off the cars because of their extra downforce will create more turbulence for the following car and make following closely more difficult - is going to produce better racing.

The other small matter is that the cars are also 200mm wider, which effectively makes the circuit that bit narrower as well.

I'm afraid it's going to be down to the dreaded and artificial DRS to create overtaking. I'm also afraid that will need tweaking because I don't think it will be as good as last year. And I used the word 'good' loosely, because I hate it.
