While McLaren says it can forgo that, Red Bull initially played hardball in negotiations and is believed to have asked for a similar contribution to Toro Rosso’s budget. Although it’s the junior team in the Red Bull sta***, Toro Rosso costs Red Bull’s owner Dietrich Mateschitz more money than the senior team because it receives nothing like as much external commercial backing. The idea of an extra £100 million was very appealing. Honda baulked at this and negotiations collapsed. They have recently been re-opened – and Liberty’s Ross Brawn and FIA President Jean Todt were both involved in the discussions between Honda, Red Bull and McLaren over the Monza weekend. Red Bull continues to ask for a significant budget contribution for a Toro Rosso supply and Honda continues to value such a partnership at less than Red Bull is asking for. Red Bull has – perhaps mischievously – suggested that if Honda won’t pay what it is asking for, then perhaps McLaren might contribute!

As for McLaren, although there is a mechanism where a team without an engine has to be supplied by one of the remaining manufacturers should Honda pull out, the FIA has to be notified by a certain deadline – which has already passed. So it is Honda, Renault – or nothing. The prospect of it ending up by default with a Mercedes or Ferrari in the back has gone. If it cannot convince Honda to leave, thereby making it impossi*** to take up a Renault supply, what alternative does it have?

Furthermore he confirms that other teams want to race with Honda’s Power Unit but the Honda board members are somewhat opposed to this. In fact the board say that they accept Honda’s F1 project but only with McLaren and that’s why Honda refused to supply power units with Toro Rosso and RedBull mooted back in August. Toto Wolff has indicated he is not happy with F1's official weather service. This year, Meteo France took over from UbiMet as the supplier of detailed weather information and forecasts to all F1 teams.

But at Monza, the forecasters evidently got their weather predictions completely wrong. So when asked about Sainz's 100 per cent Red Bull contract for 2018, Dr Helmut Marko told Canal F1 Latin America: "It's difficult to talk about 100pc in formula one.

"I would not be surprised to see him at another team. Because I know what his contract is.

"But only we can make it possi***," the Red Bull official added.

"It's a corporate decision," Fry told the F1 Report, which airs on Wednesday night at 8.30pm on Sky Sports F1. "All of the engineers will be saying, 'dump it and run - we'll have more MGU-H recovery, more horsepower and lap time is going to be half a second quicker if we go with Renault.'

"They'll know all that from simulation. They're engineers, it's what we do."

But Fry, who enjoyed a 16-year career with McLaren before joining Ferrari in 2010, also admitted it was a complicated affair with several other parties involved.

"The first step was always going to be a struggle for Honda, but it is surprising how little progress there has been over three years," he added.

"But you'll have one group of people screaming that it's a no-brainer and then you've got all the commercial aspects and everything else - and that's why it's such an awkward problem."

I don;t think we should expect to see Kubica to be driving for Renault next year. There are chances elsewhere though. Williams and Sauber.

Williams padetis imho yra tragiskesne, nei McLaren. Ir temia jie vien tik del varikliu.

Williams turi geriausią variklį (Mercedes) ir geriausią inžinierių (Lowe), belieka tik pilotus geresnius susirasti.
