Gallagher added that Honda are “fighting with both hands tied behind their back because they can’t develop the power units the way they need to; and on top of that, every time they have to change an engine or indeed an element of the engine they get a penalty.

Honda is believed to have the highest revving turbo of all the F1 power trains. It spools at the maximum allowed 125,000 rpm, whilst Mercedes is believed to be running at 100,000 rpm.

The quicker the Turbo spools, the more power is provided particularly at low ICE revolutions. Clearly Honda are playing ball with the FIA#s original intentions that the focus for the new power units be away from the ICE and towards the lesser developed technologies.

One solution to some of Honda’s reliability problems would be to include a new design that revs the turbo more slowly – to improve reliability. However the Japanese manufacturer is refusing to do this and their development is focused around the turbine and the compressor.

Formula E and former Toro Rosso driver Jaime Algersuari’s racing license has been suspended for health reasons. After the Moscow ePrix, the Spaniard had passed out from exhaustion and so far no definite explanation has been found. Although Algersuari insists that he has no health problems, his license was suspended as a precautionary measure.

Manor-Marussia test pilot Fabio Leimer will driver Algersuari’s Virgin Racing car in the Formula E season finale, the dou***-header at London. Also making a Formula E debut at London, will be Simona de Silvestro for Andretti Autosport.

Honda preparing to supply 'multiple teams' 25 June 2015

Internal planning documents seen by Crash.net reveal that the Japanese manufacturer intends to construct a new F1 factory in Milton Keynes, England.

“At present, Honda's power units are solely used by the McLaren Honda race team, but it is intended that they will become a key provider for multiple Formula 1 teams” the document explains.

This comes despite Honda motorsport boss Yasuhisa Arai playing down its presence.

“It is just a warehouse, we need somewhere to store energy recovery systems as right now they are kept in an old shipping container next to the Mugen building.”

In his recently-released book ‘Aussie Grit’, Webber confirms that he was not only speaking to Ferrari about joining Fernando Alonso there in 2013, but that talks advanced to the point where contracts had been drawn up after a meeting following the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix.

In the end, Webber says the major reason he didn’t sign was because Ferrari would only offer a one-year deal.

Webber added that when Red Bull Racing heard he was talking to Ferrari, the team began contract talks with Lewis Hamilton.

“Red Bull Racing were having a bit of fun talking to other drivers too, Lewis in particular, as they had clearly got wind of the Ferrari approach, so there had been no dialogue about extending my contract,” wrote Webber.

“It would have been a change of scenery to go to Ferrari: it was also nice to feel a little bit wanted.

“Interestingly Bernie Ecclestone did a U-turn on that prospective Ferrari move: he was against it at the time, but in mid-2013 he asked me if I was comfy with my decision [to leave F1] and said he believed we could still make the Ferrari deal happen for 2014.”

The Manor Marussia F1 Team today announced a new partnership with Flex Box, a leading worldwide manufacturer and supplier of new shipping, storage and reefer containers. The FIA has vowed to introduce new restrictions to reduce the level of assistance drivers receive from their teams in three races’ time as the first step in a package of changes to overhaul F1.

Following a meeting of the Strategy Group the FIA announced “increased restrictions on driver aids and coaching received unanimous support and will be rapidly implemented, starting from this year’s Belgian Grand Prix – with a particular emphasis on race starts – and in 2016″.

The FIA said the changes will “bring back the driver in full control of the car, enhancing race excitement and unpredictability”.

The Strategy Group has also recommended changes to how power unit penalties are imposed, which will be implemented if approved by the F1 Commission. This will include allowing new manufacturers to use an extra power unit during their first season, including Honda this year, although McLaren has already received penalties for exceeding its original allocation of four.

The FIA and FOM is to review the ‘token’ system which regulates engine development and produce further proposals on the cost of supplying the V6 hybrid turbos, altering the fuel allowance for races and limiting the use of engine dynamometers.

From next year the FIA intends to bring in “changes to the exhaust system that will improve engine noise”. This too will need to be rubber-stamped by the F1 Commission.

A statement from the sport’s governing body promised “exciting and innovative changes to the qualifying and race weekend formats” from 2016, and said plans to allow teams to select which tyre compounds they wish to use at each race had been “confirmed” for introduction next year.

For 2017 the teams will agree on new regulations including “wider cars and wheels, new wings and floor shape and significantly increased aerodynamic downforce”.

Team bosses met on Wednesday to discuss a new system which will now be sent to the World Motor Sport Council to be ratified next week in Mexico and written into the 2016 rules.

Whilst no specific information has been released, it's believed team bosses have agreed to drop in-race penalties, meaning the most severe punishment would see a driver start from the back of the grid.

Their number one choice is said to be Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, but the Australian has a contract until 2018 which is said by sources to be watertight and the former champions have said they are not interested in selling him.
Ricciardo said this week he was "flattered" to be of interest but it was "unlikely" he would move, although he could not rule it out.

Renault has decided to return to full team ownership in formula one.

That is the claim of multiple international media sources, including France's Autonewsinfo, citing the confirmation of people close to the news.

It appears the French carmaker has struck a deal with the Enstone based team currently known as Lotus, which until 2009 was already Renault's works outfit.

The reports say Renault is initially buying back 51 per cent of the team from Gerard Lopez's Genii company, while quadruple world champion Alain Prost is set to play a key role.

It is believed Renault will have to pay a financial penalty for breaching Lotus' existing engine contract with Mercedes.

And the news will ramp up speculation Renault's own engine customers, Red Bull and Toro Rosso, will have to revert to Ferrari power or quit the sport.
