Gerard Lopez is planning a rare-in-2016 visit to a grand prix next weekend.
One of the matters is the need for urgent talks with Renault, according to the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat.
It has been rumoured he is close to agreeing a sale of the Enstone team back to the French carmaker, which was rebranded as ‘Lotus’ after the 2010 season.

“Our information is that Lopez and (Renault CEO Carlos) Ghosn will meet at the Hungarian grand prix to make the deal.
“Lotus’ financial situation is difficult, under pressure in the courts from creditor Xtrac. If a deal is made, the debts will move to Renault,” he added.

Turun Sanomat went on to claim that if Renault does buy Lotus, Cyril Abiteboul is determined to lead the team but some officials believe the former Caterham chief, who is just 37, lacks the experience.

Quadruple world champion, former team owner and boss and Renault ambassador Alain Prost has been linked with the job.

Last month, it emerged that despite small teams’ concerns about the fairness of the income distribution model and the Strategy Group, Europe’s competition commissioner will not investigate unless a formal complaint is lodged.

The European politician reportedly pushing hardest for a complaint to be made is Anneliese Dodds, who presides over the area in southeast England that housed Marussia and Caterham, the two F1 teams that collapsed last year.

A former F1 driver has this week been caught speeding in Germany.

Der Trierische Volksfreund, a German daily, reported that police stopped the driver as he was in excess of 60kph above the allowed limit of 80kph.

The newspaper said the ex-grand prix star paid a four-digit fine and continued his trip to the Nurburgring, even though he is now facing a ban of several months on German roads.

The police did not disclose the identity of the driver, but they did say his career spanned the years of 1989 and 2001. Frenchman Jean Alesi, the former Ferrari and Benetton driver, fits that perfectly.

Soon Haas’ attention will turn towards signing up the race drivers for 2016.

“We are looking for two drivers with experience. As a new team, you don’t also want to be running a driving school. You need two drivers who already know what they’re doing,.”

In the early races of the season, Ferrari was a*** to run a more aggressive mode on the power unit during Grands Prix, where Mercedes was very cautious and obliged its works team and customers to run much of the race on a safer mode for reliability. This allowed Vettel and the Saubers to some extent, to perform more strongly in races relative to the opposition.
In qualifying the Mercedes still has a ‘warp speed’ mode that allows it to hold a margin over everyone, but they had their vulnerability in races.
Since Mercedes introduced the second engine in Canada, they have been a*** to run a more aggressive mode during races while Ferrari has also had some small technical loopholes closed on fuel management, which it was exploiting early in the season. This is why Vettel has been left for dead in the opening stints in Canada, Austria and Silverstone.

Jean Alesi has confirmed rumours he was caught speeding this week at 60kph above the legal limit on a road in Germany.

Der Trierische Volksfreund, a German daily, reported that police had stopped a former F1 driver in excess of 140kph en route to the Nurburgring.

The police did not disclose the identity of the driver, saying only that his grand prix career spanned the years of 1989 and 2001.

The only driver fitting that bill is Frenchman Alesi, the now 51-year-old former Ferrari driver.

Alesi duly confirmed to the Swiss newspaper Blick: "I had been in my Mercedes for a few hours already and wanted to get from Avignon to the Nurburgring as soon as possi***, as my son Giuliano was testing a Formula Renault for next season.

"The police were very nice and we talked about racing. But they still took more than 1000 euros from me!" Alesi smiled.

"I will probably also lose my licence for German roads for two months."

2015 Russia GP set for financial collapse

This year's Russian grand prix is in danger of last-minute collapse, Russian media and Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper report.

Sochi is scheduled to host its second consecutive race in October, but organisers are reportedly desperately hoping for a 64 million euro bailout by the government in Moscow amid a deep economic crisis.

"If there is no credit, there will be no formula one," said Veniamin Kondratiev, the interim governor of the Krasnodar region.

The reports said 20,000 tickets for the 2015 Russian grand prix have been sold to date.

But Kondratiev explained that, amid the crisis, funding for schools and funding are being prioritised.

"We will not use our regional funds for formula one," he insisted.
