Alonso’s car will be run by Andretti Autosport, which already has five other entries planned, driven by Ryan Hunter-Reay, Marco Andretti, Alex Rossi, Takuma Sato and rookie Jack Harvey. The team will need to pick up more staff if it intends to run them all. But then, maybe one of them will stand down and go to Monaco instead…

The obvious choice as the Alonso replacement would be Jenson Button, the team’s reserve driver, but does Jenson really want to come back to do just one race? Or perhaps the reserve driver gig was always a cosmetic deal and JB is enjoying his retirement and not really keen on a one-off appearance that offers no real chance of winning the race. If it did, Alonso wouldn’t be going to America…

So perhaps we are going to see another announcement to get interest going in Monaco. And what better way than having an American star standing in for Alonso. The problem with this is that the Andretti drivers have only one superlicence between them: this belongs to last year’s Indy 500 winner Alex Rossi.

cia ne patvirtinimas, o nuomone Bensono. kiti turi kitu nuomoniu ir daug kam pirmiausia kliuva, kad Buttonas iki siol nebuvo patvirtintas, nors ir de facto yra atsarginis pilotas

Ferrari’s floor seems divided into three segments.
In Shanghai, last week, there were slow-motion shots of Raikkonen during free practice, where you could actually see the edges on the left and right side of the floor bent down. However, the effect does not take place over the full length of the floor. Only parts of the floor seem to have this quality.

Ferrari has, just like every other team, been tested by the FIA. And of course, the FIA haven’t found anything illegal. However, it now seems that the bending of the floor was only observed up to about 20 centimeters in front of the rear wheels. Did Ferrari outsmart the FIA? It looks as if the Ferrari floor consists of several parts, which might be the answer on the question of how they did it. But this would be a to simple solution for F1, haha. It looks like the Ferrari SF70H has an other special feature, besides its side pods. Although the floor consists of a single piece, it looks as if it were divided into three separate segments from a bird’s eye perspective.

The middle part is significantly higher in comparison to the other two parts. It is in the middle part where the sensors are with which the temperatures of the rear tires are measured. In the pictures included you can see how the parts seem to fold over each other.

But there is more to the previously mentioned photos! Apparently the photos revealed a an other feature. It looks like, while traveling near the higher speeds, the rear wing and the diffuser of the Ferrari cars flexed down, towards the track. By this Ferrari could be a*** to increase the top speed of the car, without decreasing the down-force to a level that it would be negative on the handling of the car through corners. This would reduce air resistance and provide a better top speed. In the Shanghai race, Mercedes and Ferrari were only separated by 0.9 kph on the long straight.

Engineers of their rival teams wonder why the Ferrari, as the only car of the field(!), has two vertical rear wing elements. Aerodynamically, that makes no sense. Each of those elements disturbs the air flow. If you have two of them, you are multiplying this negative effect. The engineers think the only reason to use two pillars are to tilt the wing specifically. Of course, like I mentioned before, this is not the first time a team gets accused of trying such tricks.

But the accusations have, of course, reached the FIA inspectors, how could they not? In F1 the rule ‘snitches get stitches’ don’t apply. But at the FIA they are relative calm about it. They say that they have the power to change their inspection methods at any time. It is not written down that the (stiffness of the) floor can only be tested on the two parts that are tested today. Just like they changed the test of the front wing. If necessary they will do the same for their rear wing test too.

Undoubtedly a story to be continued…

Pasiusti Whitinga nebeuztenka, kad sulauktum kazkokiu pasekmiu - arba kaip vienam leido daryti, ka nori, o kitiems neleis:
FIA’s race leader Charlie Whiting had a heated driver meeting today, in Bahrein. And with him Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Vettel had to listen to a lot of criticism about his starting position on the grid of Shanghai.

Sebastian Vettel put his Ferrari, at the start of the Chinese Grand Prix, approximatly one meter outside his start box. According to him because he suspected better grip there. Vettel did not think he did anything wrong since Daniel Ricciardo had done the same during the start of the Japanese Grand Prix of 2016, and he was not punished for it.

But he forgot that back then there was a roast of Ricciardo at the next driver’s briefing in Austin. Once again, same as back then, Whiting read the regulations of the start to the drivers today. These are: The driver must make every effort to go into his start position. But what exactly is a starting position? There is nowhere written how far left or right you can place your car. “Theoretically one stands in his start box, as soon as only one wheel is placed in it” says Force India-Teammanager Andy Stevenson. “This is not, of course, the way they meant the rule when they crafted it.”

At the driver’s meeting in Bahrain, Sebastian Vettel had to listen to his fellow drivers complaints for 22 minutes. Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa where the ones who had the most critique on the Ferrari driver. They wanted to know from Charlie Whiting why the action was unpunished last sunday, and whether everyone would be a*** to put his car where they wanted, in the future.

The answer to the second question was a firm ‘No’. The FIA expects all drivers to place their cars as precisely as possi*** into the start box. Anyone who is as far off as Vettel in Shanghai, will be a case for the stewards. And they won’t always come to the same mild decision as in China.

During todays meeting it also surfaced that Whiting has admitted that Vettel escaped a pit lane start. Whiting wanted to cancel the start, because of his start position. That would have meant for Vettel that he had to start the race in the pit lane, indisputably! But according to Whiting he didn’t went through with it because he felt that this punishment would not fit the crime. So he referred the case to the stewards. Of course not everyone at the meeting felt the same way. “Either he did something wrong or he didn’t. Half wrong is not a possibility. So he should have felt the consequences.” replied Renault’s Alan Permane.

Fernando Alonso says his only priority for the 2018 season will be driving a car capa*** of fighting for the F1 World Championship.

The statement could be interpreted as a clear signal that Alonso is preparing to quit McLaren at the end of the year, having rejoined the team in 2015 after being persuaded that their renewed alliance with Honda would propel the team back to the front of the grid.

During the race, Alonso's anger was made clear as the Spaniard took to the radio to complain about how much time he was losing on the straights to other cars.

"How they can *** me?" he asked at one stage. "300 metres behind, and they *** me on the straight, I've never raced with less power in my life!"

Later, when told by McLaren it was considering a strategy switch to 'Plan B', he replied simply: ""Do whatever you want, man."

2017 Balandžio 17 d. 10:43

Word is that Renault management are very keen on the idea of having Alonso slotting in next to Nico Hulkenberg and thus spearhead their ambitions. They believe that next year they will have the ammunition to challenge for victories and even the title.

O del algos - kuri dalis labiausiai skauda? Jei Alonso liks McLaren kitamet, skaudes dar labiau, nes ta alga vargiai mazes - faktas, kad McLaren reikia Alonso ir McLaren nori Alonso, nes jokio kito top piloto negaus

20 April, 2017

Former Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica returned to single-seater action for the first time since his horrific accident in 2011, and admits that it awakened old memories .

The popular Polish driver completed more than 70 laps in a GP3 car run by Trident at the tight and tricky Franciacorta Circuit in Italy.

Kubica said afterwards, “I was back in the waters in which I swam for many years and I must say the feeling is great, truly wonderful.”

“I was surprised because after so long the feeling with the asphalt and the emotions I remember have resurfaced. Of course there were a lot of things that I can do better.”

“On the physical front and preparation side there are many aspects you can improve, but my limits are at a good point. I did the test in a tricky condition – Franciacorta Circuit is challenging and the GP3 single-seater is without power-steering, but I’m glad to have had this opportunity.”

2017 Balandžio 20 d. 22:28

The FIA has also asked for the the traditional gravel traps to be replaced by portions of asphalt as seen at other F1 tracks.

The infamous 'Wall of Champions' - the concrete wall that located at the exit of the last chicane - will have its angle modified, as the FIA has deemed it was dangerous.

2017 Balandžio 21 d. 21:38

Boullier is instead cautious about reading too much into the final day in Bahrain, “It’s very difficult to understand what’s going on.”

“We obviously changed the MGU-H four times and [Tuesday] morning, two laps, MGU-H gone, changed the engine, did 17 laps. [Wednesday] we had a small alert but we couldn’t find anything wrong physically on the car and then since then we’ve run faultlessly, without any problems.”

“So I think it’s going to be complicated for Honda to understand what’s wrong, it could maybe be coming from some batch problems. I don’t believe it is a car build problem but we can’t find what’s wrong… We can do two laps or we can do two days [worth of running].”

2017 Balandžio 23 d. 10:18

And then Villeneuve unleashed one of the most hilarious quotes we’ve heard in a long time:

“I heard Nico Hulkenberg and Romain Grosjean giving their opinion about what Alonso is doing - Hulkenberg said it’s dangerous, that he wouldn’t do it, that he did Le Mans because it was different. It sounds like excuses.”

“I think there are two classes of drivers. You’re either an Alonso or you’re a Rosberg. And Hulkenberg is a Rosberg.”
