Reports from Spain suggest that Fernando Alonso has had enough with McLaren and will leave the team at the end of 2018.

Reports from Spanish sports publication Diaro Gol suggest that he’s going to leave the team at the end of the season to be replaced with McLaren junior and current Formula 2 championship leader Lando Norris.

It seems pretty likely that leaving McLaren will mean that 36-year-old Fernando leaves F1 altogether.

Renault has now awarded Red Bull an additional two weeks to decide their power unit supplier for 2019.

"After twelve years together marked by many wins, we would be ready to continue with them," Abiteboul told France's Auto-Hebdo.

"The number one issue is timing. We won't be able to guarantee the availability of a Renault engine for 2019 beyond May 31. We were nice, we gave them two extra weeks."

However, Red Bull initiated talks with Honda in Azerbaijan, and will continue discussions with the Japanese manufacturer this week in Spain.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner recently insisted that when the time comes for the team to choose its engine partner for 2019, the primary criteria will be performance.

Williams has lodged a protest with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix stewards against Fernando Alonso for the manner in which he drove back to the pits on lap one of the race.

The stewards noted in a statement: “The team has requested the stewards review an incident involving cars 17, 27 and 35 in turn two of lap one of the race and the actions of the driver of car 14 in returning to the pits. (The stewards note that the reference to car 17 above is most likely incorrect and it should be car 14, namely Fernando Alonso).”

The entire track has been resurfaced.
A 10m wide section of asphalt has been replaced by gravel around the outside of Turn 1.
The artificial grass on the exit of Turns 2 and 7 has been removed.
The guardrail has been re-aligned to the left of the run-off at Turn 4.
New double kerbs have been installed on the exit of Turns 5 and 16 and the artificial grass removed.
The run-off areas on the exit of Turn 12 and around the outside of Turn 13 have been increased.

However, Force India technical director Andrew Green and the team’s chief operating officer Otmar Szafnauer believe the CFD data the teams provided to help the FIA’s studies has also exposed the extent of the resource differences.

“The data that was received [from teams] was anonymous but we got to view it,” said Green. “The level of detail that some of the teams were able to go into in such a short space of time was incredible.

“We barely scratched the surface in the two weeks that we had. We did what we could with what we had and we submitted it to the FIA.

“We looked what the other teams submitted and we think, 'crikey, for us that's a month’s work, minimum’. We can't compete with that. It was just incredible what some teams could do in that timeframe. We looked on in envy at what they could do.”

Szafnauer said it was “phenomenal” and purely down to their financial might, adding: “If we had twice the number of people, we could do it too.”

Red Bull’s pipeline of junior drivers has run dry, however Mercedes protege and former Sauber driver Pascal Wehrlein has come up in paddock gossip as an alternative.

oi ble. turim nauja Captain Obvious. as manau, kad jis 15 tu titulu turetu - kas paneigs, kad as - ne teisus? Toto gina Hamiltona ir jo nugaros kasytoja Botta - kad tik kito varzovo nereiketu, bet daro tai taip pat bukai kaip Fry'us komentarais, kad Alonso galejo laimeti su Brawn GP 2009, nors prisijungti prie Hondos jam siule 2008. According to this, more than the permitted four megajoules of energy per round are being fed into the system from the battery. This is achieved by bypassing the measuring sensor, manipulating the electrical resistance in the wires and via two outputs from the battery. If this were the case, experts believe that this would add 20 hp in the qualification rounds in the short term. A maximum output of 120 kilowatts (163 hp) from the energy store is permitted.

The alleged trickery is so complicated that the FIA technicians find it difficult to understand it. Which makes it difficult to prove a violation of the rules. After checks in Baku, a report was prepared, which is still secret for the time being. Samples in Barcelona did not reveal anything conspicuous.


The Mercs had captured the front row – so this theory went – because this was the first race since the FIA had discovered that Ferrari had been deploying more than the permitted 4kj of stored energy per lap in the four previous events. Now that the extra output on the battery had been discovered, along with the extra ECU within the battery’s casing, so Ferrari had been trimmed back to normal power – and consequently was a tenth or so behind Mercedes rather than a couple of tenths ahead. In exchange, the conspiracists explained, Ferrari had changed its mind about not voting in favour of the FIA’s proposed 2019 aero reg changes. Ok, this was based on slightly more solid information – the FIA had actually looked at Ferrari’s energy store in Baku and requested an explanation for how it worked, and Ferrari had switched its position on the 2019 regs. But.

1) Yes, but so had Mercedes. If there was a quid-pro-quo, it was a trade-off in the proposed 2021 engine regs for something that both Ferrari and Mercedes wanted.

2) GPS analysis by Mercedes suggested that there was next to zero offset between the two engines around Barcelona and that the difference in qualifying lap time was wholly accounted for by lower apex speeds for Ferrari at Turns 4, 7 and 9.

Even Mercedes was saying the anti-Ferrari story was nonsense.
